  Preparing for Civil Disturbances

    The University of Massachusetts has gone through a number of civil disturbances following events such as the World Series and the Super Bowl in addition to other unplanned, spontaneous events. The University has developed a cross-jurisdictional plan for addressing these events.

Fire Safety Analysis of Colleges and Universities in New Jersey

    The New Jersey Division of Fire Safety recently conducted a survey of the 24 private and public schools in the state that have residential facilities. This survey was conducted to gain a better understanding of the level of fire safety being employed by both the school and the community.
     
  Applying for Federal Grants

    The Department of Homeland Security has expanded the criteria for applying for federal grants to include colleges and universities. While many schools have the expertise to apply for grants, fire prevention is a new area for many of them. This presentation will answer some of the critical questions about applying for these grants.

    We're bringing back the incredibly popular Town Meeting where the attendees get a chance to discuss what are some of the most pressing issues on campuses and get reactions and information from all of the other participants.

    Twenty vendors will be on hand to show you the products and services that they have to offer to the campus fire safety community. Along with the vendor show will be a series of 30 minute presentations from these vendors with more details and information.
     
  Princeton Review Survey Questions

    The Center for Campus Fire Safety has developed a series of questions for a fire safety survey that is administered by the Princeton Review. This survey is quickly becoming a tool used by parents and administrators to evaluate the level of fire safety on campuses. This is your chance to have input into the development of the questions and to be prepared for the next round of surveys.

New York State Campus Inspection Program

In 2003, New York State implemented a program for inspecting all college and university buildings. Learn how this program was conceived and implemented and what the track record has been for its first two years of existence.

     
   

New York State Education Program

Building on the recommendations of the governor's task force, the Office of Fire Prevention and Control developed specialty training programs and standards for university staff and students.

Ongoing inspections in Greek housing are a challenge because of the dynamic, changing occupancies. In State College, Pennsylvania, which is home to over 50 fraternities, one timely inspection identified a host of significant hazards, ranging from a waterfall in the central stairway to walls and floors covered with sheets of plastic.
