La Cross Fire Department 9 Fires Preview and Summit
A special campus fire safety summit in partnership with the La Crosse Fire Department, the Michael H. Minger Foundation, Campus Firewatch and the University of Wisconson-La Crosse.
You are invited to attend a special showing of the campus fire safety documentary, “9 Fires”. (RSVP below)
Nine devastating fires erupted on or near college campuses across the nation in just three short
weeks in January and February of this year, including the fire at UW-L’s Drake Hall. So often these
stories are merely short headlines that fade from memory. This compelling documentary emotionally tells of the impact on the families, the survivors and the community. It tells “the rest of the story”.
Film crews traveled across the country, talking with families, survivors, fire departments and
schools to put together this compelling documentary, including interviews with Chancellor Joe Gow, students and staff from the university as well as members of the La Crosse Fire Department.
Following the documentary, there will be a discussion of campus fire safety issues until 12:00 noon. At this time, a complimentary lunch will be provided for those that are interested in continuing the discussion in a series of working groups (the full agenda is available below). If you are interested in attending, please RSVP using the form below so that we can get an accurate count.
“9 Fires” which is being produced by the Michael H. Minger Foundation, will be freely available on the internet for schools and communities to use in helping raise awareness about the importance of fire safety, everywhere, for everyone.
