Just during the period of February 6 to February 11, six fires killed 19 children and 9 adults and, within the last month, at least 65 people have been killed in fires where over half of the victims were children. States and communities are starting to face an increased rate of fire deaths, particularly in fires that kill three or more people in each incident. (Note to editors: Most of these tragedies are not campus-related incidents.) To provide fire departments with ideas and resources in addressing this problem, Radio@Firehouse.com (www.radiofirehouse.com) is hosting a Podcast focusing on catastrophic multiple-fatality fires. Sponsored by the National Fire Sprinkler Association (www.nfsa.org) and moderated by Ed Comeau, publisher of Campus Firewatch (www.campus-firewatch.com), this broadcast features a diverse panel of experts, including: Heather Caldwell, Kidde Judy Comoletti, NFPA Ben May, Walt Disney World Ozzie Mirkhah, City of Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Peg Paul, Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition Alan Shuman, Georgia State Fire Marshal Along with the Podcast, which can be listened to online or downloaded to a computer or MP3 player, are a collection of links to free resources and information.
